The UK Society for Intravenous Anaesthesia - the early years
Glasgow 1997
The Society was formed in
July 1997 at the Royal Society of Medicine, and held its inaugural
meeting in November 1997 at the Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre
in Clydebank, with contributions from anaesthetists at the adjacent HCI
International Medical Centre. The local organising team was led by
Professor Gavin Kenny (Glasgow). Dr David Coates (Bristol) was
installed as President, Dr John Peacock (Sheffield) was Honorary
Secretary and the Treasurer was Dr John Sear (Oxford).
Committee members included Professor Kenny, Professor Rajinder Mirakhur,
Dr John Orton, Dr Milda Simpson, Dr Kiran Jani and Dr Nigel Huggins. Dr
Orton subsequently designed the Society logo.
Bristol 1998
Dr David Coates organised the 2nd Annual Scientific
Meeting, in Bristol. Meeting highlights included a video presentation
by Dr Gareth Greenslade, and a visit to the Bristol Medical Simulator.
Manchester 1999
The 3rd SIVA UK Annual Scientific Meeting was organised
by Dr John Orton and Dr Milda Simpson. Dr Coates stepped down as
President and was succeeded by Dr John Sear; Dr Peacock replaced Dr
Sear as Treasurer. Dr Douglas Russell was appointed Honorary
Secretary, and agreed to provide the Society with its web presence...
