Annual Scientific Meeting of the UK Society for Intravenous Anaesthesia

The highly successful Edinburgh 2005 Annual Scientific Meeting was attended by delegates from three continents.

Dr Alastair Thomson (right), Specialist Registrar in Anaesthesia at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh won the prize for the best free paper presentation by a trainee anaesthetist. The prize was awarded by Alaris Medical Systems and presented by Mr Douglas Dunn, with Professor John Sear in attendance. Dr Thomson's paper was entitled "Evaluation of a new method of assessing depth of sedation using two-choice visual reaction time testing on a mobile phone".

The 2005 Annual Scientific Meeting was held in the Radisson Hotel, on the Royal Mile, half-way between Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyrood House. One of the highlights was Thursday evening dinner, with Pipe Major Iain McDonald piping-in and addressing the haggis.
