Based in the UK - as a resource for Anaesthesia
Worldwide
Oxford
2002
The highly successful 2002 Annual Scientific Meeting was
attended by 150 delegates from 17 countries, among them Australia, Japan, Peru,
Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, France and Israel.
The presentations were of a
universally high standard, but surely the highlight of the meeting was
the debate on Nitrous Oxide, led by Dr Ian Smith and Professor Gavin
Kenny. Most of those present, including Dr Smith and his
supporters, considered the headlines
"Smith triumphs in Anaesthesia Debate" and "Shock Defeat
for Kenny" perhaps just a little bit premature.
However, with the "aye's"
(those in favour of the motion that anaesthetists no longer need Nitrous Oxide)
to the left and the "no's" (nitrous oxides!) to the right
in the pictures below, outgoing President
Professor John Sear found the result too close to call and had no option
but to declare an honourable draw.
